Background

Farida Ahmed founded The Digital Agency Limited with a specific conviction: that Nigerian organisations — from a small beauty brand to a federal ministry — deserve the same quality of digital infrastructure that drives efficiency and impact everywhere else in the world. And that the gap between where most Nigerian organisations are digitally and where they could be is not a skills problem or a resource problem. It is a systems problem.

Before founding TDA, Farida worked at the intersection of technology, institutional capacity, and organisational change — developing a clear-eyed view of why digital initiatives in Nigeria so frequently fail to produce measurable results despite genuine investment and effort. The answer, consistently, came back to the same place: systems built around technology rather than around operations; projects measured by delivery rather than by impact; teams trained to use tools rather than equipped to own processes.

TDA was built to do the opposite. Every project begins with the process. Every result is defined before building starts. Every deliverable comes with a before-and-after number.

Research

Farida leads TDA's research programme, which focuses on AI adoption and digital readiness across Nigerian public institutions. She publishes the annual State of AI in Nigeria's Public Institutions report — the primary evidence base for understanding where Nigerian government agencies, parastatals, and educational institutions stand on AI readiness and what determines whether digital initiatives succeed or stall.

She also developed the AI Readiness Index, a rigorous benchmarking framework that assesses institutional AI readiness across five dimensions: strategy, data infrastructure, technical capacity, governance, and leadership. The Index has been used by institutions across health, education, finance, and justice to establish a baseline and identify the highest-priority interventions.

Focus areas

AI adoption strategy for public institutions — designing realistic, evidence-based AI roadmaps for Nigerian ministries, agencies, and educational bodies; navigating procurement, political, and capacity constraints.

Process automation for SMEs — building automation systems that solve specific operational problems with measurable outcomes; particularly for service businesses operating through Instagram and WhatsApp.

Data governance and NDPA compliance — helping organisations design AI systems and data processes that meet Nigeria Data Protection Act requirements without requiring a full legal team.

Digital capacity building — designing and delivering AI literacy programmes and digital skills training for institutional teams; focused on practical capability, not theoretical awareness.

Programme delivery systems for NGOs — building field data, reporting, and compliance infrastructure for NGOs operating across multiple states, with a focus on reducing the administrative burden on programme staff.

Speaking and advisory

Farida speaks regularly on AI policy, digital transformation strategy, and the practical realities of AI adoption in African public sector contexts. She is available for conference speaking, panel participation, executive advisory roles, and institutional consulting engagements.
